2025 Liudui Hakka Cultural Festival —The Colors of the Southwest Wind
《 The Margins of Memory 》
Artists|Jun-Tso Lin & Fang-Yi Yang
Materials|Recycled plastic, aluminum wire, roadside mahogany wood cut down in Xinpi
Dimensions|Variable, site-specific
The work was inspired by a rural village in southern Taiwan.
Often regarded merely as a stop along the way, people rarely linger here. Because of this, the settlement has preserved a relatively original village landscape.
Vast land, winding rivers, and scattered hamlets together weave the texture of this place.
Here, traces of different histories and cultures overlap and intersect, yet they have rarely entered the mainstream gaze.
Houses thus become witnesses — quietly standing at the margins, carrying time and memory, while revealing a sense of overlooked solitude.
This work attempts to pose a question:
Within the gaps of the margins,
what do you see?
— about life, memory, and belonging.
The Margins of Memory
Using the house as a symbol,
the work translates the condition of rural villages:
It is neither at the center nor entirely vanished,
but quietly watching from the edges.
Visitors are invited to leave their discoveries about this land.
Through these written fragments intertwining with the work, the house gradually becomes a shared house of memory.
