Plastic Wrapping Action

A recycled plastic intervention on space and sustainability.──

This work is an extended practical project from Chapter 3 – Design and the Environment in the course Introduction to Design.
While exploring the relationship between design and environmental sustainability, we realized that “recycling” is not merely the act of breaking down waste materials to create new products—it is also a design-driven intervention into environmental issues.

As a response, second-year Graphic Design students chose plastic bag weaving as their method of practicing recycling and reuse. By combining this technique with an architectural wrapping installation, they transformed large quantities of plastic bags collected from campus and daily life into a public design language. This process resulted in the creation of the work: "Don't Plastic Us!"

Concept|
We live in a modern world made of plastic—breakfast bags, food delivery packaging, shopping bags, and discarded trash hiding in corners. Plastic has silently become the protagonist of our daily lives.

Using the exterior wall of the Graphic Design building as a creative site, second-year students collectively wove discarded plastic bags and wrapped them around the building, constructing a visual and sensory experience of occupation and consumption.

Plastic bags are no longer just waste—they become materials that actively occupy space.
Architecture is no longer merely a structure—it becomes a symbol bound by the discarded remnants of our daily lives.

This is both a warning against the overdependence on plastic bags and an act of self-reflection, performed through the healing gesture of handcraft.

本作品為「設計概論」課程第三章——「設計與環境」主題延伸實作。

 

在探討設計與環境永續的議題中,我們發現「回收再利用(Recycle)」不僅是將廢棄材料分解再製成新產品,更是一種需要透過設計手段介入環境問題的行為。

 

因此,廣設科二年級學生以「塑膠袋編織」作為回收再利用的實踐方式,結合「建築包覆」的裝置形式,將大量校園與生活中回收的塑膠袋,重新轉化為具有公共意義的設計語言,進而發展出本次作品——《不要塑膠我們!》

 

 

創作理念|

我們生活在由塑膠組成的現代環境裡,從早餐的塑膠袋、外送包裝、購物袋,到丟棄在角落的垃圾,塑膠早已成為生活中無聲的主角。

 

我們以廣設大樓外牆為創作基地,由二年級學生集體編織廢棄塑膠袋,並包覆建築表面,形構一個視覺與感官上的「佔據、吞噬感」。

 

讓塑膠袋不再只是垃圾,而是「主動佔據空間」的物質;建築不再只是載體,而變成被我們日常遺棄物所綑綁的象徵體。它同時是一次對塑膠袋過度依賴的警告,也是一場以手作為修補之名的自我反省。 「被包覆的不是建築,而是我們的未來。」
