2022 Environmental Citizen Art in Action

《Planting a Boundary Art Tree》
Every time I visit Keelung, I am drawn in by its magnificent scenery. From the bustling harbor, where land and sea transportation converge, to the station, it's a junction of mountains and sea, where people and vehicles flow in a lively manner.
"Junction": The place where two places meet.
Keelung, a city where urban development coexists with nature, has long linked the convenience of its citizens to the beautiful scenery, both in the past and in the future. This artwork is exhibited in the "Commissioned Shopping District" - one of Taiwan's early bustling commercial areas, where buyers from all over once flocked in abundance to purchase foreign goods. With the reduction of tariffs due to economic openness and the borderless nature of the internet age, the Commissioned Shopping District lost its function as a "junction" connecting domestic and foreign, East and West, leading to many transformations or closures of its silver iron gates. Now standing within the streets of the Commissioned Shopping District, looking around, one is surrounded by a silver world, and the past prosperity can only be imagined, while the future awaits "connection". This reminds me of the importance of "The Bond" in the futuristic world of technology in the movie "Avatar", the poignant moments of connection between the Na'vi people and nature - such as birds or trees. The importance of junctions and connections is even more evident under contemporary development and environmental changes, with a key impact on sustainability.
So let's plant a "art tree" that connects "climate change" and "future sustainability"! We invite Shenmei Elementary School to join in producing "leaves" by recycling plastic wrapping or wrapping around segments of aluminum wire. Guided by environmental teachers and artists, this connects the issues of land development with children's imaginative creativity and execution. At the junction of mountains and sea, let's plant a sustainable tree that connects with the land of the Earth!
